Giving Tuesday Tips from Loralie!

Giving Tuesday is November 29th and is the biggest generosity campaign across the globe. It is sandwiched between two holidays that highlight consumerism - Thanksgiving and Christmas - but Giving Tuesday brings light to giving kindness and spreading generosity.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. The idea caught on, and has grown around the world, inspiring hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.”

It is an opportunity to get your stakeholders and your community involved in your cause. You can launch a campaign to raise money, spread kindness or raise awareness around your mission.

Here is how you can get started:

GET INSPIRED

There are tons of impactful campaigns that can get you motivated. Some organizations use the “unselfie” or the #givingtuesday hashtag to increase excitement around their campaign.

BECOME A PARTNER

It’s free and easy to do. You can sign up and create a profile page via givingtuesday.ca

You will have access to many resources and a community of support.

CREATE A CAMPAIGN

Create a meaningful campaign that fits well with your organization’s needs: raise awareness around an important issue, attract donors, find volunteers etc

SPREAD THE WORD

Use social media blasts, share impact stories, create a punchy video, email blasts, set up a text messaging campaign, get your volunteers involved

Tips to guide your campaign success:

Start early

A lot of organizations start planning their campaign 4-6 months in advance. But, if you plan a strong outreach campaign, you can still have success with even a few weeks to plan

Build your team

Get your board, staff, and other volunteers on board. You can make it easy for them to share the campaign through social media and text messaging. Make it fun and set up goals as you move along the campaign.

Technology is Your Friend

  • Use hashtags connected to the larger Giving Tuesday movement to leverage your own campaign: #GivingTuesdayCA and #Unselfie

  • Set up an email campaign to get your community excited about and involved in your campaign

  • Make giving easy for your supporters, use a text to give campaign

  • Set up a snazzy donation page via givingtuesday.ca

Thank your supporters

Acknowledging and showing appreciation for your supporters is so important. Not only will it inspire them to keep supporting you, but it will create a culture of gratitude. You can send out personalized emails, and show them the impact that their support has own your organization and the bigger community.
